You can help us by:
- Volunteering for The Griffins Society: we have a small team of highly motivated and active volunteers, including women who are currently serving prison sentences who come to the Griffins Society’s office in Islington through the release on temporary licence scheme. They play a central role in maintaining our Women’s Information Network database of projects. We also have an IT volunteer who is a senior manager in a telecoms company. We are always looking for more volunteers and at the moment we need people who have administration skills, people with research skills, and people who can train staff and volunteers in using computer database and web site programmes. We also need a volunteer who is knowledgeable about charity fundraising, who can help us implement our new Fundraising Strategy. The volunteering opportunities we provide for women prisoners helps them learn new skills, gives them a positive experience of working in an office environment, and provides them with a reference for a future employer. If you think you might be able to help us, please contact kim@thegriffinssociety.org for an informal discussion
- Make a donation or a legacy: The Griffins Society receives no regular government funding. Our independence enables us to be critical of the criminal justice system when necessary because we are not dependent on the state for our income. Our research has brought about tangible improvements in the criminal justice system’s engagement with women, but that has only been possible because we are not subject to government spending priorities. Please help us maintain that independence by donating to The Griffins Society or making provision for us in your will. We welcome any donation, large or small, anonymous or otherwise. Because the Society has such a small staff team, our administration costs are minimal. You can therefore be sure that your donation will be put to good use in improving provision for women in the criminal justice system. For further information about how your generosity can help, please contact peter@thegriffinssociety.org
- Are you a student? If so, have you thought of working for The Griffins Society temporarily as an intern, or writing your dissertation about an issue concerning women offenders? We are always interested in working with students to develop research about women offenders. If you are studying a criminal justice-related discipline and you might be interested in working with us, please contact peter@thegriffinssociety.org
- Interested in practitioner research? If so, a Griffins Research Fellowship might be just right for you. More information about Fellowships is available at Research Fellowship Awards.
